Latrine Design and Construction

In this workshop, participants will learn how to design and construct latrines for low-incomecommunities not connected to a sewerage system. The focus is on designing latrines that aretechnically and environmentally appropriate, and that people will actually want and use.The workshop explores the relationship between sanitation, disease transmission and health. Itgives participants experience selecting appropriate latrine parts, such as the toilet, slab,superstructure, and pit, tank or chamber. It also addresses technical and environmental topicsincluding siting latrines and sizing latrine pits. Modifying latrines to make them accessible fordifferent user groups, including children, women, and people with limited mobility, is discussed.Aspects of hygiene, such as handwashing and menstrual hygiene, are also discussed as theyrelate to sanitation. Finally, participants will learn a framework for implementing a sustainableand successful project.The theory in the course is balanced with practical design exercises and hands-on work.Participants may construct basic latrine components and handwashing stations. However, thisworkshop is not intended to provide full training on the construction of latrines or masonrytraining.

Myanmar Focused: Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage

This workshop introduces the fundamental concepts of Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) through engagement with interactive, participatory learning methods. Throughout the course, the importance of capacity building and context analysis in ensuring successful HWTS implementation is highlighted. This course provides an introduction to drinking water quality, the Multi-Barrier Approach to safe drinking water, household water treatment and safe storage (HWTS) options, behavior change, and implementation best practices. It is intended for people responsible for making decisions about HWTS.The course will provide an opportunity to network with other NGOs and/or individuals working in Myanmar.

Community WASH Promotion (CWP)

Strengthening Local Partnerships and Service Models for Sustainable Rural WASH Systems in Uganda

The Uganda Rural Water Systems Learning Exchange (LEX), hosted by ACTS Uganda, is a three-day event that will convene diverse actors working to strengthen rural water services. This exchange provides a platform for NGOs, government agencies, service providers, funders, and community organizations to share knowledge, surface innovations, and address critical challenges in rural water supply.The event will explore pressing issues such as sustainability, inclusive governance, financing models, climate resilience, and locally appropriate technologies for rural water systems. Through case studies, peer-to-peer learning, and practical demonstrations, participants will gain actionable insights and tools to improve the functionality and resilience of the systems they support.Beyond knowledge-sharing, the LEX is designed to foster long-term collaboration and joint action. By the end of the event, participants will have built new cross-sectoral and cross-regional connections, developed a collective resource of real-world lessons, and identified opportunities for partnerships that can ensure reliable, sustainable water access for rural communities.
